Arizona Diamondbacks’ JD Martinez States His Wish To Come Back
Arizona Diamondbacks’ JD Martinez is definitely interested in coming back to the team. Martinez was extremely frank about his wishes in an interview with azcentral Sports. He opened up about his wish to come back to the Diamondbacks and said that he was not at all interested in the money aspect of the game. His focus was on being in a team that had a chance and wanted to put on some competition.
During his two and a half months with the team, he hit more home-runs than has been hit by any player in a long time. His 29 home-runs helped Arizona no end. He has been one of the more dangerous hitters in the game for the last four years, and he continued that as a free agent. When he first came to the Diamondbacks, it was assumed that he was nothing more than a temporary bat, brought in for the short term.
As a free agent, he will be able to make the choice of where to make the jump. Martinez added that he had lost a lot, and he did not find it to be a fun experience. He went on to say he would avoid a similar experience if he could.
The main problem for Arizona is that they will not be the only team who are looking to bring in Martinez to their side. What’s worse is that it is practically guaranteed that what Martinez will be paid elsewhere, is going to be much more than what Arizona will be able to offer him. While he has said that he is not interested in money, and rather wants to be in a ‘relevant’ team, there are plenty of relevant teams out there with more money who would want Martinez.
The decision to keep him in the team may be a risky one given his age, but Arizona has decided that they will do whatever it takes to bring him back to the team according to a report by The Boston Globe. The only thing that Arizona has on their side now, in their quest to bring him back, is that he wants to go there himself. Nick Cafardo of the Boston Globe talked about sources who were of the opinion that Martinez would prefer to play in the secondary market than going to a big market team at this age.
Now while it is all very well to speculate about where Martinez will end up, for the moment no one can be sure. Everything is up in the air, and in a game of baseball, nothing is decided till it is decided.
